An Education In Social Innovation

UT Dallas sponsors bigBANG! to help leaders of tomorrow leverage their education to give back to society

In a recent interview, Diane McNulty, Ph.D. Associate Dean for External Affairs and Corporate Development for The University of Texas at Dallas School of Management, shared that “we’re a proud sponsor of bigBANG!.  It’s a  forum and experience that will not only facilitate the exchange of ideas and best practices, but also continue to foster the movement of ‘doing good better.”  And while UTD is a sponsor of the bigBANG!, event, an all day conference focusing on the value of social entrepreneurship, UTD has always been an active leader in the world of implementing social innovation on campus, in its curriculum, and throughout our community.

Outside of the classroom, UT Dallas offers its student body the opportunity to engage with Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), a service organization open to college students in any area of study. As part of a national organization, SIFE takes on projects that give back to the community in a way that demonstrates the positive power of business. Additionally, UT Dallas students are actively engaged in community service through such programs as Alternative Spring Break, Service Saturdays and Viva Volunteer.

Inside of the classroom, UTD integrates a community service requirement into many of its  programs, including the School of Management’s undergraduate Management Honors Program, so that students value the importance of “doing good while doing well.” In addition, The UTD School of Management offers a “Entrepreneurship in the Social Sector” course that explores the role and importance of the non-profit sector and the unique place it occupies in 21st century American life.

UT Dallas trains the leaders of tomorrow and the visionaries who leverage their education to give back to society. UTD’s participation with bigBANG! is a complementary networking and learning opportunity where students can convene with current leaders and discuss relevant topics in the area of philanthropy, social investing, social entrepreneurship and technology.
